Recommendations on the Karnataka Gig Workers (Conditions of Service and Welfare) Bill, 2024

As a part of its broader research on platform economy, Aapti worked with the Department of Labour, Government of Karnataka to explore financing mechanisms for gig workers’ social security. The research comprised a cornerstone of inputs which informed the proposed Karnataka Gig Workers (Conditions of Service and Welfare) Bill, 2024.

Specifically, our recommendations touch upon two aspects of the Bill: one, evaluating models for financing gig workers’ social security schemes as contemplated in the Bill; two, intermediate grievance redressal mechanisms that extend the reach and accountability of platforms towards workers.

In undertaking this research, Aapti engaged with experts and conducted comparative legal analysis of similar global legislations and policy precedents.
